This is a pre-announcement of the second round of the General AI Challenge - Solving the AI Race round (expected start: November 2017).
In preparation for this round, the AI Roadmap Institute, a partner organisation of GoodAI, has just released a new blog post “Avoiding the Precipice: Race Avoidance in the Development of Artificial General Intelligence”, which discusses:
- The potential pitfalls of the so-called AI race.
- Creating and comparing roadmaps which visualize scenarios of the future and allow us to outline mitigation strategies for negative scenarios.
- The main actors who will be vital in ensuring the safety of general AI.
- The future and the need for active cooperation between safety experts and AI industry leaders to avoid negative scenarios.
The AI Safety research can strongly benefit from the open discussion. Participants of the AI Race and Safety Assurance round of the General AI Challenge will be tackling a scenario in which the search for general AI becomes a race between developers / companies, where AI safety potentially gets neglected in favor of faster deployment of powerful, but unsafe general AI algorithms.
You will come up with a proposal of what practical steps can be taken to avoid the pitfalls of the AI race and advance the safe development of General AI.
